Jesus calls Matthew and then ends up at a dinner at his house along with many “tax collectors and sinners.” Some people think they are far from God. They think that God favours moral people, and people who try to be good. They don’t have any expectation or hope that God could be looking for them. What they will find in Jesus is that God came to seek and save the lost. He is most interested in people who don’t think they are good enough, because these are the people who know they need help.
