Join us in Mauritius for the
Oasis Program
What is the Oasis Program?
The Oasis Program is gap-year program set on the island of Mauritius, operating under Redeemer Church. Designed for school leavers between the ages of 18 and 20, it welcomes participants from all over the world.
The Oasis Program seeks to encourage interns to develop a profound and personal relationship with God while equipping them with practical life skills, an appreciation for a diverse culture, and a passion for serving the Mauritian community.
Our goal is to guide interns toward a life of purpose and impact beyond the confines of the gap year, preparing them to navigate the complexities of our world with resilience, wisdom, and a heart rooted in faith in Jesus Christ.
Our Vision
"Springs will gush forth in the wilderness, and streams will water the wasteland. The parched ground will become a pool, and springs of water will satisfy the thirsty land. Marsh grass and reeds and rushes will flourish where desert jackals once lived."
Isaiah 35:6-7 (NIV)
The vision for the Oasis program is rooted in the profound promise of Isaiah 35:6-7, where springs gush forth in the wilderness and streams water the wasteland. Our dream is to cultivate a community of young individuals eager to embark on a journey of spiritual exploration and personal growth.
Inspired by a shared passion for Jesus, we envision a team radiating a vibrant light that transcends cultural and religious barriers specific to the island of Mauritius. Our goal is to witness these young hearts shining brightly, not just within the church but also throughout the local community, sparking transformative change. We aim to break through the parched ground of spiritual thirst, cultivating pools of deep faith and bubbling springs of personal growth.
As these interns invest in Mauritius, we, as a church, are compelled to reciprocate by investing in their lives, fostering a reciprocal exchange that becomes part of God’s larger narrative. This vision encapsulates a journey of spiritual rejuvenation, a transformative Oasis where each intern not only discovers the abundance of their own faith but becomes a source of inspiration and transformation for the people and communities they encounter.
Our Focus
The interns will commence each day with morning devotionals to guide and lead them spiritually, aiding their navigation of challenges in a foreign culture.
The program will provide diverse opportunities for interns to engage in impactful ministry and outreach activities. This includes teenage Bible studies, youth nights, youth camps, prayer meetings, elderly care, worship sessions, serving the church, contributing to the Mauritian community, baking for church leaders, and participating in kids’ ministry.
Workshops on essential life skills will be conducted, covering time management, financial literacy, effective communication, and leadership development.
Mauritius is very diverse in its culture, cuisines and languages. We encourage interns to embrace the local culture through activities like enjoying local cuisine, participating in a catamaran trip, and building relationships with people from various backgrounds.
At the heart of the Oasis Program lies a core value: service. Inspired by the example set by Jesus, we prioritise the act of selflessly laying down our lives to serve others.
Within the context of Redeemer Church, interns will be actively involved in serving, including mundane tasks like washing dishes and stacking chairs. Through these humble acts, interns will learn the value of humility, perseverance, and dedication to the mission of the church. Our focus is not on grand gestures, but on the everyday acts of service that build and sustain our community.
Opportunities for personal reflection and growth will be created through journaling, group discussions, and individual counseling. This will be a time for interns to find their identities in Christ.
Over the duration of the program, a healthy lifestyle will be promoted. The interns will engage in physical activities such as CrossFit, hikes, ocean swimming, surfing, and exploration of the island.
A theology course called CrossRoads will be taught, as well as French and music lessons.
Mission trips are an important part of the Oasis Program. We, as a community and church, believe that it is important to connect with and serve other communities. In 2025, the group of interns will travel to the neighbouring islands of Rodrigues and Madagascar.
The Duration
The Oasis Program takes place over 23 weeks, with two intakes a year. The intakes for 2025 are as follows:
- January Intake: 7 January 2025 – 21 June 2025
- July Intake: 8 July 2025 – 13 December 2025
Accommodation
The interns can be hosted by the church, if accommodation is required. Each intern will be staying with a trusted family and will move around every month. This will allow the interns to create connections with various people in the Redeemer Church community.
Our hope is that this will be a time where friendships will be formed and young people will be discipled. The hosts will treat the interns as members of their families during their time with them.
