Join us for our first 2025
Prayer Week
"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Ephesians 6:18-19 (NIV)
Redeemer Church started 2024 with a theme of prayer, and we have continued with prioritising prayer in 2025. This theme runs like a thread through the history of the church with the first gatherings of this community almost 20 years ago being devoted to prayer. It is also one of our church values – Praying with Faith. The aim of this prayer week from the 2nd to the 7th of February is to grow in our practice of prayer. We want to develop better prayer habits in our personal devotion. We want to learn from each other as we pray in small groups and we want to call out to God together in a corporate prayer meeting.
Prayer reminds us that we are dependent on God for everything, The act of prayer helps us to take advantage of the access we have to our Father in heaven. There are so many ways to pray – each one a gift from God. We can pray prayers of repentance, prayers of gratitude and worship, prayers for breakthrough and cries for help. Our hope is that this week, each one of us, will learn a little more about prayer and will be inspired to keep growing in prayer long after the week is over.
If you have any prayer requests, or would like to know more about the prayer week, please send us an email on admin@redeemerchurch.mu.

Daily Prayer Devotionals
We are entering a week of prayer and fasting. The idea is to set ourselves apart for the week and to lift up our prayers and requests to God. In fasting, we give up something important to us to show that we are dependent on God for everything. Here are our 5 daily themes:
Day 1: Fasting to win the battle (Mon 3 February)

The Christian life is sometimes compared to a battle of good versus evil. Prayer and fasting help us to fight the battle by strengthening our spiritual resolve, connecting us to God’s power, and increasing our faith and courage.
1 Timothy 6:12 (NIV)
Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
As we focus on fighting the good fight of the faith, ask God to help you and others to…
- Resist temptation (Matthew 4:1-11)
- Deliverance from spiritual oppression and heaviness (Ephesians 6:12)
- Courage to overcome intimidation (1 Samuel 17)
Day 2: Fasting to topple an idol (Tues 4 February)
Christians have idols. These are things that we worship with our time, money, or energy in a way that shows that they are more important than God in our lives. They are also things that enslave us by demanding more and more of our time, money and energy over time.
1 Samuel 5:2–4 (NIV)
Then they carried the ark into Dagon’s temple and set it beside Dagon. When the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the Lord! They took Dagon and put him back in his place. But the following morning when they rose, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the Lord! His head and hands had been broken off and were lying on the threshold; only his body remained.
As we focus on toppling idols, ask God to help you and others to…
- Offer the best of our time, money, and energy to him first (Matthew 22:37-38)
- Set us free from slavery to idols (Galatians 4:8-9)
- Turn to God first when we are in trouble (Isaiah 31:1)

Day 3: Fasting for a miracle (Wed 5 February)

There are things that happen in life that are completely beyond our ability to solve. Only God can do the impossible and he invites us to bring our impossible situations to him in prayer. Sometimes he answers those prayers in an instant; other times we have to persevere in faith and prayer for a long time like the saints who have gone before us.
Matthew 9:20–21 (NIV)
Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
As we focus on impossible things, ask God to help you and others to…
- Experience spiritual, emotional, and physical healing (Mark 1:32-34)
- Be fruitful in our areas of physical and spiritual barrenness (1 Samuel 1:19-20)
- Open doors that we cannot open (Revelation 3:8)
Day 4: Fasting for the reach of the gospel (Thurs 6 February)
For 2,000 years, the church has been spreading the message of Jesus and planting new church communities. This missional work of the church relies on God’s power through the gospel message and the testimony of Christians despite severe opposition.
Acts 13:1–3 (NIV)
Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.
As we focus on the reach of the gospel, ask God to help us to…
- Be a bold witness to those around us (Matthew 5:14-16)
- Plant new churches in new regions (2 Corinthians 10:15-16)
- Raise up leaders who will care for the people (Matthew 9:35-38)

Day 5: Fasting for the nation (Fri 7 February)

Christians do not live in spiritual bubbles away from other people. We are called to be part of our society and to be an influence for good in our communities. If our country prospers, we will also prosper, and we will be able to share our faith freely and boldly.
Jeremiah 29:4–7 (NIV)
This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: “Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”
As we focus on our country, ask God to…
- Help us love our country and be a positive influence in it (Jeremiah 29:4-7)
- Help our leaders to govern with wisdom and skill (1 Timothy 2:1-7)
- Help us build strong marriages and families as a foundation for a healthy society (Jeremiah 29:4-7)
Let's Pray and Fast Together

Prayer & Worship Evening
In addition to our daily devotionals, we encourage everyone to try to meet up for a time of prayer during the week.
We will also have a Prayer and Worship Evening on Friday, the 7th of February, at 18:30 at the church in Black River. We will have a time of corporate prayer and worship, and will break the fast together after the meeting. Remember to bring your dinner so we can eat together after the meeting.

Prayer & Fasting Guide
We encourage you to fast alongside us this week. Fasting is a spiritual discipline that Christians have participated in for centuries. It is a subject Jesus spoke about, and the practice extends into Old Testament times. Like any spiritual discipline, fasting can become just another religious duty. But it can also be a powerful practice that draws us nearer to God.
We have prepared a guide to assist you with fasting. You can find a copy of the guide here.
