Endings and beginnings are built into the fabric of our lives. It is the way the world has been designed to give us multiple opportunities to let go of the past and embrace the future. Every year, we get the chance to end one year and begin the next. Every month, we get the same. Every day, we get a sunset and a sunrise. And every year, we have season changes that remind us of endings and beginnings – summer to autumn to winter to spring. We also have spiritual endings and beginnings. Paul gives us an example in the book of Philippians. He speaks about forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead as a running metaphor for the spiritual life.
