Saviour of the World but Running for his Life
This message forms Part 3 of our Christmas series – Hidden in Plain Sight – highlighting the glory of Jesus compared to the humility of his incarnation. He was something, but he became nothing so that we who were nothing might become something.
“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.” – 2 Corinthians 8:9 (NIV)
From the time of his birth, Jesus is literally running for his life. Herod ordered his death as a baby. Twice they tried to stone Jesus, and once they tried to throw him off a cliff. Long before the crucifixion, there was a constant threat that hung over Jesus’ life. That sense of running from something is an all too human experience. Many people live their lives hoping not to get caught by something they fear. The Christmas story is that God became human. He left the safety of heaven to be pursued and captured by his enemies, so that he can save us from our enemies and offer us a place of safety with him forever.
