Some of the Old Testament prophecies about Jesus were recognised in advance. But other prophecies only became clear after they were fulfilled. They were hidden until the events they spoke about came to pass. Psalm 22 falls into that hidden category. It was written by King David about 1,000 years before Jesus was born. David wrote about himself and his own experience using figurative and creative language. But that language becomes a literal and physical description of the actual events of Jesus’ death. And so, we have a prophecy about Jesus written 1,000 years before his birth and hidden among the Old Testament writings until Jesus himself quoted it on the cross.
