1 Samuel 17 tells us the story of a young David facing, and ultimately defeating, the giant Goliath. This well-known tale is one of excitement and triumph, but it is also a picture of the world today. There are the giants of sin and evil popping up all over, and we, as children of God, are automatically conscripted into the army of God and employed into battle.

But all too often, the challenge of proclaiming and spreading the gospel, of pushing back the forces of evil, of destroying the giants in our world, is not being accomplished. That is the tremendous challenge facing us today. This story is one that encourages us to stop hesitating, be willing to serve, and act with boldness and enthusiasm for the work God has called us to do.
