When Bad Things Happen to Good People

Speaker:
Passage: Job 1:1-22

One of life’s hardest questions is: Why do bad things happen to good people? The book of Job does not give us a simple answer, but it does show us how a believer can remain faithful when life no longer makes sense. Job was a righteous and godly man, yet he experienced devastating loss. He lost his wealth, his children, his health, and the support of those closest to him. His suffering was not the result of hidden sin, but part of a greater purpose that he could not see.

Job never learned the reason for his suffering. That was intentional. God called him to trust without having all the answers. Faith grows not when we understand everything, but when we continue to trust the character of God despite what we cannot explain. The message of Job is that God remains sovereign, wise, and good, even when our circumstances suggest otherwise. Our suffering is never outside His control, and He is able to use even our deepest trials to accomplish His good purposes in our lives.
