There are many things in our lives that are valuable and precious to us – things that we devote much of our time, energy and resources towards. But these things can disappear in a moment, like a whole neighbourhood in an out-of-control fire. And we can be left with almost nothing but the things we can carry in one carload. And if that happened to us, could we say that we still have the one thing that is most valuable in the whole world – the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus our Lord?

Is it our goal to foster our relationship with God through prayer and reading the bible and experiencing him at work in our daily lives? Will we make this our highest priority and consider it our greatest prize? Because if we give ourselves to this one thing then everything in our lives will fall into its proper place.
