Growing in Groups: Discipleship and Dinner
The dinner table is a significant setting in Scripture where we see God reconciling and bringing peace to people’s lives. Its importance is not in the table itself, but in what happens there. Around the table, we are postured for God to move powerfully in and through us. As we gather with others who are pursuing him, we open ourselves to biblical teaching, encouragement, counsel, correction, and vulnerability. In this space, we witness gentle discipleship at work — and we are transformed in our priorities, understanding, perspective, and lives. The dinner table is where we lower our guard and soften our hearts, allowing God to continue his transformative work through the people we share life with. In the life of Jesus, and in the testimony of many believers today, the table remains a central place of discipleship and growth — not in a single evening, but as an ongoing journey toward spiritual maturity in Christ.
