Daniel was taken hostage by Nebuchadnezzar and trained to serve in the Babylonian Government. He held a position in government for 70 years through the reign of at least 4 kings. It was a time of political uncertainty with competitive and ambitious colleagues in an environment characterised by worldly values. Yet, despite these challenging circumstances, Daniel honoured God and served effectively so that he was respected by all. Political leaders come and go along with their vision and values for a nation. But God’s purposes remain and we must be faithful to him at all times.
