Psalm 91

Speaker:
Passage: Psalm 91:1-16

The Psalms is a book of praise written over 900 years by more than seven authors. The largest contribution came from King David, who wrote 75 Psalms. We should study the Psalms because: They teach us to meditate on God. They teach us to praise and show us how to praise God. The teach us to have faith in our troubles and to receive comfort from God. They teach us how to have passion for God’s mission. And they teach us to value and practice corporate worship and private devotion.

Psalm 91 is one of the most loved psalms in Scripture, often turned to in times of fear, danger, sickness, uncertainty, and trouble. But Psalm 91 is not merely a passage to quote in a crisis. It is a call to live near God. The keyword in verse 1 is “dwells.” The promise is not given to those who occasionally visit God when life becomes difficult, but to those who make Him their refuge, fortress, and dwelling place. The central message of the sermon is: The grace of God brings us into God’s shelter, and the life of faith learns to stay there.
