Passage: John 14:16-21

One of the troubling things that Jesus said to his disciples is that he would leave them and go back to his Father in heaven. Even after the resurrection, if they had any hopes that Jesus would just stay and continue his work, but now in his glorified body, those hopes were soon dashed by Jesus’s insistence that he would ascend to heaven and wait until the time for his return.

But Jesus did not leave them without hope. He actually said that it would be better for them if he left, because then the Holy Spirit would come. And then he taught them many things about the Holy Spirit and about his work in our lives as believers.
