Some Words from Phil

Hi Everyone

My message on Sunday came from Acts chapter 17, where Paul gave a speech before the Areopagus in Athens. He spoke to them about the Creator God, who does not live in temples, doesn’t need anything from anybody, determines the times and places of our lives, and is not far from any of us. He closes this incredible speech about God’s majesty with a call to repentance and faith in Jesus.

Last night, we discussed those ideas in more detail in our home group. It was a thought-provoking discussion where people shared their insights on the Bible passage and its application in day-to-day life. I was moved by the way people described God’s work in their life story, even before they realised what he was doing. From “chance” meetings to “random” appearances of posts on social media, God has infinite ways of drawing near to our lives.

For Leigh and me, home group is an essential element of our weekly spiritual rhythms. But, if you have never been in those kinds of discussions, you may not realise what you are missing.

There is something deeply impactful about walking the journey of faith together with others through the ups and downs, ordinary and extraordinary, joy and grief, that characterise our life on this earth.

Why not give it a try?

A Testimony from Adrian Hohls

I think my story really starts at the very beginning. I was a loved child from minute one.

My biological mother was only 22 when she became pregnant with me. I believe that because of the love she had for me, she made the very difficult decision to give me up for adoption. I was incredibly fortunate to be adopted into a very loving German family, and I’m deeply grateful for the parents who brought me up.

Recently, I have faced, and am still facing, a significant health challenge. One Friday morning, I woke up feeling unwell. And within a very short space of time, I discovered that I had a tumour on my brain and another tumour in my neck. Further tests then found a spot on my lung, and a biopsy confirmed that it was cancer.

Following some treatment in Reunion, the tumour in my neck is gone, and the bleeding on my brain has stopped. I’ve seen God’s presence throughout this experience, through Nicci and my family, through friends, through the doctors and specialists, through prayer, and through moments that I personally find impossible to dismiss. The illness has drawn me even closer to God. I am following the doctors’ advice and doing exactly what they ask me to do. At the same time, I’m putting my faith and trust in God.

I don’t know exactly what lies ahead, but I know who I want beside me as I go through it.

Today I can genuinely say that I feel good, I feel hopeful, and I am incredibly grateful. Praise God.

Elder's Corner: a Message from Jonas

A Windy and Cool Welcome from the North 🌬️

As I sit here in the North building, doing some admin work, I find myself thinking about the journey God has taken Ketcia, myself and Faith on and how He has led us to play a small but significant part in what He is doing among our North congregation.

I got the opportunity to sit down and pray with a pastor in the North and had some good conversation around ministry. While praying, I was reminded of one word: Friendship

Friendship is something we all experience, yet it is easy to overlook how much of a gift it is from God. The Bible gives us a beautiful picture of what true friendship looks like. It is more than simply spending time together or enjoying common interests. Biblical friendship is built on association, faithfulness and affection.

Association means choosing to walk through life together. We were not created to live isolated lives, looking only after our own interests. We are called to share life, carry one another’s burdens and build each other up.

Faithfulness means being someone others can count on. Proverbs 18:24 reminds us that “there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” A true friend remains present not only when life is easy, but especially when things become difficult.

Affection means genuinely loving others and seeking their good. Paul’s relationship with the Philippians is a beautiful example of this. Their love was not merely expressed through words, but through practical generosity, encouragement and support.

Ultimately, Jesus gives us the greatest picture of friendship: “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)

May God help us not only to find good friends, but to become faithful, loving and Christ-centred friends to others as well.

Last Sunday's Message

On Sunday, Phil followed up our 5-week Come and See series with a message about how Jesus is not far from any of us, and with an interview of Adrian Hohls, who was baptised just after the service.

Many people believe in God, but have no personal relationship with him. Many people follow disciplined religious practices, but still end up feeling far from God or empty inside – like those practices haven’t actually impacted their lives. Others seek spiritual experiences or a sense of inner peace, but have no connection to a personal God who knows them by name and seeks a relationship with them. How do we get from a religious tradition, or a general spiritual awareness, to the place of personal faith and hope?

Ultimate Joy Party

Calling all kids between the ages of 6 and 14!

Join us for our annual Ultimate Joy Party 🎉 on Saturday, the 31st of October, from 15:30 to 19:00 at Redeemer Church.

We will be having lots of fun, including glow-in-the-dark activities, dance and drama, and a praise party. And of course, there will be lots of yummy eats and treats.

The Ultimate Joy Party is free of charge and a drop-off event, but any parents who are keen to volunteer and help out are most welcome.

Coming Up at Redeemer

Thanksgiving Service

Our Thanksgiving Service for 2026 will be happening on Sunday, the 22nd of November, at 16:00.

Like last year, it will take place at the Campement de Chasse de Petite Riviere Noire. It will be a joint service for all Redeemer campuses, and we encourage you to all join us as we take a moment to give thanks for all God has done for us this year.

We will also not have any morning services that day.

Student Ministry

Student Ministry started again this week!

With the new academic year starting for many, we are so excited to welcome back familar faces as well as get to know some new ones too.

If you’re a university student, join us on Thursdays from 19:00 at the Middlesex University Student Lounge for a time of worship, prayer, Bible study and fellowship.

Ladies Bible Study (west)

Join us for our new Ladies’ Bible Study series as we work through the book of Romans together. This season’s series, titled “From Guilt to Grace” happens on Thursdays at 10:00 at the Church in Black River.

Did you know that we have ongoing weekly Sunday services in three locations around the island? In addition to our service in Black River, which we also livestream to YouTube, we have services in both The Vale and Blue Bay on Sunday mornings.

Redeemer North

Redeemer North meets at our new Redeemer North location every Sunday morning at 9:30. The service consists of some worship, a message from the Word, and a time of coffee and fellowship after the service. There are also Kids’ Ministry classes during the service.
