Today we are talking about identity – not the biological side of creation, but the value side. Does my life have value? Am I important as a person or am I just a number – one of 8 billion alive on the planet right now? Who am I really and what do I mean to God?
We vastly underestimate the role of faith in matters like identity. It is absolutely vital that we believe this account in the book of Genesis, because it is the confidence we have in this creation story that allows us to reject the lies that cross our minds on a daily basis. Positive thinking might help a bit. Someone else’s encouragement can definitely lift our spirits and help us feel better. Achieving some goal will surely improve our confidence for a time.
But the only solid foundation we have to build a life upon is the truth that God created us, and we are made in his image, and it is very good! When we choose to believe that and stand on that truth when other ground trembles beneath us, that is when we have accepted our identity as made in the image of God
