A Revival Born in Prayer

Speaker:
Series:

The Fulton Street Revival started with a lunch time prayer meeting led by Jeremiah Lanphier in 1857. The first meeting started half an hour late and only 6 people were present. But they persevered and within weeks, there were more that 3,000 people in the building. A financial collapse drove the people of New York to God in prayer. That meeting overflowed to others in the city and other cities around the nation as the revival took hold. The prayers were simple requests – like a prayer for an unsaved husband, or a friend that was the only Christian sailor on his vessel. People came for as long as they could and prayed for each other with a simple and child-like faith. It is the way we are all taught to pray. Our context is not much different to theirs. Life is hard and people need help. Maybe we could see a similar revival born in prayer in our time too.
